On 12 Feb 2017, we visited Big Sister's Island during an evening low tide. The tide didn't go down as predicted and we were stranded on the high shores. Nevertheless, the team managed to find some exciting critters both beneath rocks and above ground.

Baby shark at Big Sister's Island
Here's a close-up underwater shot of the cute shark with white blotches on its black body. These sharks are nocturnal and will hunt for fish at night. Generally, sharks will not harm humans if they are left alone. As top predators, they play an important role in the health and balance of the marine ecosystem.

CNY Day 2: Little Sister's Island
On the second day of Chinese New Year, we visited Little Sister's Island! It has been close to 3 years since we set foot on the shores of Little Sister's though we have been visiting the Big Sister's a lot more.

Our first Marine Park on Sisters' Island
With the news release of Singapore's first Marine Park at the Sisters' Island, the two islands have received a lot of limelight. According to National Parks Board, the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park will be a platform for outreach, educational, conservation and research activities related to our native marine biodiversity. The location was chosen due to its variety of habitats including coral reefs, sandy shores and seagrass areas.
For regular trippers who have been surveying the Sisters' Island, visiting the Big Sisters' Island today was more like meeting an old friend despite its new status. :)

Living reefs of Big Sister's Island
One of the better accessible reefs that we can visit in Singapore would be at Big Sister's Island. It is only about 20 minutes boat ride away from the city centre!

Fun with friends with good visibility at Big Sister's Island
After several requests from friends who have seen my photos of marine life or blog posts of my island adventures, I decided to plan for an afternooon out to Big Sister's Island on the now-evening tides since the timing would be more earthly as compared to predawn low tides.

CNY Day 1: Big Sisters Island
It's the festive season of the year which we celebrate Chinese New Year and this period will definitely coincide with low spring tide as CNY follows the lunar calendar. And just like last year (and also dating back to 6 years ago), we visited Big Sister's Island to check out the marine life on the shore.

Wild abalones at Big Sisters Island!
Unknown to many, we have wild Abalones (Haliotis sp.) in our local waters! And I finally get to find two of them on our weekend trip to Big Sisters Island.

Feather star and coral garden at Big Sisters' Island
The last trip for the week has proven to be a pleasant surprise as Ivan and I stumbled upon great visibility in an underwater feather star and coral garden. It is our first time exploring this stretch of the shore!

Glorious morning trip to Little Sisters
It's the low tide season again! Though it's always a drag to wake up at 3am plus, the wonders of God's creation is always worth the sacrifice.

Colours of Big Sisters shore
Our shores are pretty and colourful and murky waters really does not do them justice. On a good low tide when the waters are shallower and clearer, one can explore and discover the kaleidoscope of pretty marine life.
I have decided to go (nearly) without words for this post on my recent Big Sisters Island trip so that you can let the picture speak a thousand words. Enjoy the pictoral! :)

Christmas eve with the Big Sister
What a great way to celebrate Christmas eve, none other exploring the rich marine life of Big Sister's Island! I have not been to Big Sister's for more than a year!
The stretch that is jam-packed with corals and other associates is doing well despite the coral bleaching earlier this year. I'm so glad to know that!

Mesmerized by Little Sisters Island
It's been a while since I am so mesmerized by a southern island shore. And Little Sisters revealed itself to be amazingly beautiful with its resident marine animals.
After having a quick look at the resident giant clam, I went on my search for the Feather stars (Order Comatulida)! Here's one bright red one found underwater.

Spectacular last morning low at Big Sister
Yes! For our very last morning low tide of 2009, we decided to visit the trip to Big Sister Island. And it proves to be spectacular!
We went to a stretch where it was my first time exploring. Ria wanted to show the giant clam there for Mei Lin to monitor. However, it was probably already covered with the huge extent of seaweed. Thus we couldn't find it.
Nevertheless while we proceeded on, we stumbled upon a stretch full of hard corals that are jam-packed together with soft corals, sponges, corallimorphs, zoanthids etc. It was truly spectacular to still find pristine stretches at Big Sister!

Back to Little Sisters after two years
After two years of absence, I'm finally back to Little Sisters with a bunch of friends. I still remember the totally black frogfish found back then.
After three consecutive trips with no sunrise to look at, today's trip was splendid for its sunrise and good weather.
