Sister's Island Creatures ID Part 1

All photos in this sections are taken by Siyang (thanks SY!). Had a HARD time trying to do identifications for first time. Those with "?" mark are just guesses. All the bracketed species names are supposed to be in italics but I'm too tired to so that already). Please kindly correct me if I'm wrong in any of them. Can learn from my mistakes :)


Spider conch (Lambis lambis). The cutie inside the shell is really interesting. When toppled, the guy inside will come out and flip the conch back to position.

Blue-spotted fantail ray (Taeniura lymma) trapped in a pool

Sea grapes (Caulerpa lentillifera)

Updated: Caulerpa lentillefera is probably racemosa. Lentillifera has perfectly round 'grapes' usually packed closely into sausage-like shapes. - Thanks Ria for the id!

A nice sponge (Porifera sp.) with osculum in the centre.

This portion focuses mainly on the corals and some other creatures. All photos in this sections are taken by myself with my humble hp camera. This is not a staghorn coral. Ria kindly pointed it is actually Pocillopora. Thks

Lobbed brain coral (Lobophyllia sp.)

Updated: Lobbed brain coral (Lophyllia sp.) is actually probably a favid, Caulastrea...but I'm not sure. The corallites forms circles and not meandering valleys so it's definitely NOT a symphylid.

They spit sticky white threads in danger. These sea cucumbers are inedible.

Land Hermit Crab (Cenobita cavipes) lives on land. It will drown in water!
